Update: 2-21-19

Long time no see! Just a general update.

So my guidebook is on it’s way to completion. 13 chapters, introduction, and table of contents. 90ish pages for 5.5″x8.5″, 0.75″ margins, and 19,000 words. No cover yet, I’m thinking something simple. I’ve explained a few times, and I’ll do so once more, this guide is supposed to be simple. Able to be read in a single setting, and vague to a degree.

The idea is to encourage the reader to research the topics themselves. Most of the information can be found easily enough for an in-depth understanding. A general overview really, to give ideas, and point one towards the right direction. Rules, guides, and laws vary by the state, let alone countries that may happen upon this guide. What is valid in Washington state could be invalid in say, California.

Rules change over time, which makes it an incomplete guide. Thus the current title ‘The Incomplete Guidebook to Adulthood’.

It’s sort of a self help type of thing.

Other projects in the works, Mad Scientist series is on hold until further notice. I’m remaking this into a book, title pending. The story is about an overlord of science, setting in space. Somewhat nomadic, living in a research dreadnought, going from system to system. It’s still a work in progress. The series was started on a whim.

Another project is ‘Magical World’, title still pending, about an alchemist yearning for adventure. Set in early 1900s, the world hasn’t gone through mass industrialization yet. Where the non-magical by choice feel oppressed.

Then there’s life, and generally being lazy. A cycle of panic, anxiety, and worry. Generally over nothing much.

I’m not particularly sorry, and to those that still check in now and then, thank you. This is just an update. Cheers.

Teaser, Book Update #4

Right then, I promised a teaser into my potential book, and here it is. Well, here they are I should say.

“To simplify, adulthood is a mess. There are bills to pay, cars to fix, and jobs to get to, all for another dollar to the account. It may seem boring, and it isn’t ‘The Dream’ you had in your teens. Still, it is what we make it.”

Not that far in, and it sums the subject matter nicely. Take from it what you will.

Following up later on we have this.

“Society doesn’t determine what a relationship is, just what they think it is. Relationships are personal, and frankly it’s no one’s business. Don’t succumb to peer pressure and expectations.”

As teens, we follow the trend on what our peers think. ‘Oh you and them would be cute together!’, you’ve heard this at least once somewhere right? Does it really work out though? Perhaps it does, often than not it doesn’t.

This booklet is not the end all be all of guides. Especially for adulthood. It is a work in progress still.

We’ve exceeded our expectations by getting as far as we are now at 15,000 words. Finding subjects though is starting to become a bit of a hassle. Three to four months in the making. Truthfully, I had started it as a ‘get rich quick’ scheme. I was fully expecting it to be done in a weekend, published as another garbage E-Book. Things changed though as I read and researched more into it.

At the 3,000 word mark, I had realized that I may be on to something. Last week, I had gone past my old goal of 8,000. I’m hoping to break the next milestone of 18,000 words. With 12-13 chapters in the works, I don’t think we’re that far off. Small steps you know? For now, its facts and statements.

Our next hard milestone will be 20,000 words. By then we can ‘personalize’ the content. Make it easier to read so it’s not a college textbook.

Is it short for a book? Yes, it is, but that is the point of it. A person should be able to read it quickly, and be able to look up the relevant chapters as necessary. This is more of an overview than an actual manual to adulthood.

Besides that, you can’t make up a list of things to do, and what not to do. Times change, and so do the rules. Another excerpt from this book sums up this point neatly.

“For instance, this guidebook. What I think needs to be done, could very well change in the end. What is helpful today, will soon enough become academic tomorrow. Nearly forgotten in the passage of time. If however I managed to help someone along years after the fact, well, I would consider that a victory.”

As I said, take what you will from these quotes. It is my hope now, that what is written will aid someone down the line. If you’re interested for more, let me know. Let other’s know that there is a potential guide booklet in the making. Be sure to share this, if it so pleases you. I shall see you again some other time, until then, cheers!

Book Progress, Update #3

We managed to break our goal of 8,000 words, and managed closer to 13,000. I know though that it is more a booklet than an actual book. Here was the previous post, with the proposed goals and very brief summary.

The main idea was for it to be read fairly quickly in one sitting. It should also be relatively easy to glance through the relevant chapters.

As I said before, I don’t feel like it’s a true book, especially if it’s going to be under 100 pages to begin with. Still, it’s a nice work in progress. Our next goal will be minimum 18,000 words with the hope of breaking 20,000. There is no set deadline just yet.

With three more subjects added, I’m feeling more confident that we can do this! 20,000 words here we come!

Here is the current Table of Contents:

Introduction
Chapter 1: Adulthood
Chapter 2: Identification
Chapter 3: Transportation
Chapter 4: Communication
Chapter 5: Relationships
Chapter 6: Health
Chapter 7: Job Hunting
Chapter 8: Scheduling and Financial Management
Chapter 9: Food
Chapter 10: Miscellaneous Advice
Chapter: 11: Enjoy Life

I reserve the right to change around the chapters and titles as needed. It’s fairly short for the moment, with potential content added later on. Perhaps sometime soon I’ll post a bit of a teaser.

I’ve also recently started working on making Mad Scientist a book on its own. Here is what has been written so far if you care to check it out. Looking back, it is… cringe worthy. It is progress though.

That’s it for the moment, take care now!

Book Chapter Summary

Right, here is a very short summary of what each chapter entails, I reserve the right to change this as I work along, this is Not the end product.

Chapter 1: Identification, forms of identification and methods to use alternative ID if need be.

Chapter 2: Vehicle & maintenance, what you need to operate a vehicle, and some general tips for vehicle care.

Chapter 3: Health, some tips on healthcare, doctor visits, and home care such as hygiene and emergency stuff

Chapter 4: Job hunting, some tips for job hunting, and self employment, very broad and simplified.

Chapter 5: Scheduling and Financial Management, some tips on being on time, as well as some financial tips, as well as touching on bill payments.

Chapter 6: Food, some tips for grocery shopping, as well as what may potentially be needed for home cooked meals.

Chapter 7: Miscellaneous, still a work in progress

Chapter 8: Enjoying Life, some tips for being sociable and what not. Still a work in progress.

Remember, this is a very generalized summary. I may change up the ordering of the chapters, and content as needed. I can’t justify publishing a booklet via ink and paper. Especially incomplete works. My end goal when all is said and done will be minimum 20,000 words, and hopefully more than 50 pages of content. If I must though, I might release this edition soon at 8000 words, 30-35 pages, assuming I publish in paperback format.

All in all, it seems decent. Although what we see and what someone else sees is far different from each other. Be mindful that these chapters are relatively short, for now they are about 4 ‘pages’ per chapter or so.

These first versions will most likely be through amazon kindle to start out with. If there is interest enough, I might set up some kind of members only thing for people to look over the work, and a sort of look into the potential books I may or may not be working on. For sure I am planning on updating the Mad Scientist series sometime soon. Perhaps going back to Friday updates for the series. There might be more ‘villain’ series in the future. There is no ‘roadmap’ just yet.

Keep in mind, this is only a thought, it might not happen in the end. We are only testing out waters here, feel free to leave a comment, share with others if you please. With that, I bid you good day.

Potential Book Explanation

So, this book I’m working on is more of a booklet, no more than 30 ‘pages’ so far, and still in progress, currently standing at about 7000 words.

It is a quick guidebook for adulthood. It doesn’t go into much details, and it is mostly basics. I plan on publishing to Amazon soon enough, a rough cut as it is. I plan on updating it as we go, make it into a true book. If demand is high enough, I would gladly include printing options sometime in the future.

I however can’t stand the idea of printing a 30-40 page booklet, it seems like a waste of paper and ink. The proposed trim is 5×8, maybe even 6×9. For now though, it will be a kindle eBook.

If there are any proposed tips you would like to see, let me know yeah? Somewhere I will post a thank you to this community for any potential contributions.

On top of this potential guidebook, I want to work on making the Mad Scientist series into a book series in the future, somehow.

Wish me luck yeah? Will try to get back into this blogging business. Cheers!
